A New Hub for Relationship Therapy is Opening in Melbourne’s Inner North this June

Luma Room is launching a new four-room centre for relationship therapy, embedded in the heart of Brunswick. In partnership with Nightingale Wurru Wurru Bik, Sense of Space Architects, Studio Toms, and local artists and makers, Luma room is a dedicated place for couples(+) to navigate and nurture connection.
Founded in 2025 by clinical psychologist Dr. Melanie Schuijers, Luma Room is a thriving collective of therapists passionate about serving relationships.
With the launch of their considered, grounding, and inviting new space, Luma Room will cater to the Brunswick and wider Melbourne community with appointments across daytimes, after hours, and weekends.
Luma Room values a warm and curious approach to relationship therapy, offering a LGBTQIA+ friendly space where all cultural contexts, and relationship structures are welcome.
Silas Gibson, Director of Sense of Space Architects is the lead architect for Luma Room’s new practice. In 2024, Silas was shortlisted for the Australian Institute of Architects' Dulux Study Tour and the Victorian Architecture Awards. His work focuses on place-responsive design, with prior experience working across regional Victoria and alongside Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.
Studio Tom has thoughtfully designed the space, guided by creative director Robbie Peirce, whose residential work has been featured in The Design Files and Est Living. His focus lies in in considered, material-led interiors with a focus on longevity and sustainability.
Luma Room will be furnished from wares sourced from local artists and makers, to support and honour the Brunswick community.
Dr. Melanie Schuijers founded Luma Room as a response to her passion for supporting relationship health, as well as identifying couple(+) therapy as an under-serviced area for the community.
Melanie is member of the Australian Psychological Society and Society of Australian Sexologists, who’s doctoral research on the topic of attachment and social-emotional health, was published academically. Her goal is to grow Luma Room as a place for all things relationship therapy, grounding the centre in values of collaborative, curious, high-quality, evidence-based care.
“We tend to focus on individual wellbeing in our society, but we’re relational beings. Our relationship health is important too, and can have a ripple effect. I wanted a space to exist where people would know they could come if they sought to nurture their connections, any time as needed. We have found our home at Nightingale Wurru Wurru Biik and look forward to servicing our community as best we can.”
